Teaching has been fabulous!!! It's had it's up and downs, just like all new teachers experience but I love the struggles and the lessons learned. It's all to make me better as a teacher for the years to come! I'm learning something new everyday, just as they are! I have got to say that after student teaching in 1st grade and moving to 3rd grade has left me a little lost. But I'm learning and I believe it's all falling into place one day at a time.
I learned last week that there really is not a final date on how long I will be a 3rd grade teacher at North Canton. The teacher I am in for has had a really rough time after her surgery. She's been in and out of the hospital and even had an emergency surgery a few weekends ago. Please pray for her. Although I don't exactly know her... I feel for her. I feel like I do know her. I pray that God can give her the strength to heal and rest at the same time. She seems like a very special lady and young at that. She's not much older than myself.
I wanted to share one of my funnies from my days teaching:
My students have had a hard time walking down the halls, walking in a straight line on their side of the hall, and using hallway voices. I mean most of our first and second grade classes puts our 3rd graders to shame! And I find that embarrassing for them. Ha! So.... last week I got a little fed up with it. I, in a way, threatened them by telling them I was going to bring a rope in. I told them this rope would be used as a tool for them to walk down the hall straight and that they would also walk with their fingers up to their lips. Let me tell you.... this tactic has scared them. It has not solved the problem exactly. But these kids really think I brought a rope in on Monday morning. Haha!!! It's sounds so awful when I have a student begging me to not bring the rope out! "Ms. Keever is going to bring her rope out if we don't walk down the hall like we're suppose to. Ms. Keever, please don't bring out your rope!" If you didn't know what the rope was you would almost think I was beating these kids with the rope! Hahahaha!
My secret.... I don't even own a rope! :)
There just has to be some of those threats just to get them to act appropriately. But, each day gets better. They're learning that I'm their teacher and that I mean business.
Oh... The JOYS of being a teacher!!
